Total Eclipse

This August 21, the sun, the moon and planet Earth will all align as Americans witness the country's first total solar eclipse in 38 years.

The August 21 eclipse will also mark the first time the phenomenon has occurred from coast-to-coast in nearly 100 years, giving spectators from Oregon to South Carolina the chance to experience the eclipse in its totality.

According to NASA, the center-line path of totality - where the moon completely blocks the sun, the earth goes dark and the sun's corona shimmers in the blackened sky - will stretch from Salem, Oregon, to Charleston, South Carolina, and will last up to 2 minutes and 41.6 seconds. This event will attract people from across the United States and beyond.

One of Habersham's venues for experiencing this phenomenon will be Pitts Park. Activities will start at 12:00 noon, and the actual eclipse time will be 2:36 p.m. Activities will include live performances, vendors and more. Eclipse glasses will be for sale at the venue.
